Section 2.2: Text Completion
Launching the Completion Interface | Using the Completion Interface | Using the Auto-Completion Mode
TouchTerm's Text Completion interface indexes all textual content from your SSH sessions, whether displayed or typed, and uses this to provide a dynamic Text Completion interface.
NOTE: Under no circumstances will TouchTerm share or transmit data from your Text Completion database; however, it is worth being aware that by default, all individual terms from your sessions are indexed and stored on the hard drive of the device. By default, TouchTerm attempts to detect when passwords are being entered and disables indexing using "Password Mode". You may also choose to disable Text Completion temporarily by executing the Enter Password Mode action, or disable it permanently by turning off the relevant options as described in the Managing the Completion Index section.
| Launching the Completion Interface | (Back to Top) |
Use the Show Completion UI action to launch the Completion Interface; by default, this can be performed with a Right-Edge Tap gesture.

The Text Completion interface
When the Completion interface is first launched, the list of available completions depends on what characters have been typed since the last "return" or punctuation character. If no characters have been typed, the interface starts with the list of all available terms; otherwise, the list is initially filtered to only include those terms that match the characters that have already been typed.
| Using the Completion Interface | (Back to Top) |
You may select any term from the list of completions at any time while the interface is visible; this will send the corresponding term (or remainder of the term, as appropriate) to the remote host, as if you had typed it.
When the the Completion interface is active, the list of completions is filtered as you type. Note that characters that you type are not sent to the remote host while the interface is active -- they are only transmitted once the Completion interface is closed.
Once you start typing, the Close button will appear on the right side of the Text field; this can be used to close the interface and transmit any currently entered text. Tapping the "return" key at any time will also close the completion interface.
| Using the Auto-Completion Mode | (Back to Top) |
You can also turn on the Auto-Completion Mode option, which will automatically launch the Completion Interface whenever terms are visible. By default, use a Right-Edge Double-Tap gesture to enter Auto-Completion Mode.
When this mode is active, TouchTerm waits until at least two consecutive word characters are typed, and then launches the Completion Interface if there are any matching terms available. At this point a term may be selected and completed, and then the cycle is reset.
Note also that when Auto-Completion Mode is active, any typing that you do will be transmitted unchanged in case the completion interface is not used. For example, if you start typing ls and then the Completion interface is launched, and you hit "return" immediately, then the interface is dimissed and the return key transmitted. So, you can use the Auto-Completion interface while typing quickly and only selectively use it when longer terms come up, without worrying that your normal typing will be affected.
For more information about controlling how terms get added to the completion index, and resetting or "pruning" the list of terms in your index, see the Managing the Completion Index section.
