Solving the Paperwork Problem

Today’s tools for organizing, analyzing, and reviewing paperwork aren’t built to capture insights.

So, we lose our best ideas.

Meet Ravi – a lawyer who faced this fact everyday while examining key documents, conducting research, and assessing legal case content. Moreover, he experienced the challenge of not having a place for his ideas to live.

As a jury communications consultant, Ravi worked on a new case weekly. “We’d be given up to a few-hundreds of thousands of pages for one case,” Ravi said. “Over the first day, we’d start with zero context of a trial to knowing everything there was to know about it.”

Ravi and his team had to work fast and quickly create a cohesive understanding of key documents, their relevance to the case, where they would live, and the insights they held. A task easier said than done due to the magnitude of content they worked with.

So often, we’d rediscover the same key document multiple times by virtue of the fact that we didn’t have a shared language for referring back to it.

His experience urged him to consider annotation as a solution for giving research and review ideas a home, but not in the traditional sense. That consideration sparked a software build.

Ravi, who also earned degrees in computer science and cognitive science, held an authentic curiosity for building tools that optimized human capacity and solved real problems. He coded a software solution intended for sharing legal documents. The idea was to create a web-like experience that allowed specific content within a document to link to directly to its supporting information, digital location, and overall relevance to a project – all while keeping source material protected and secure and our ideas intact

Today, Ravi continues his mission to help knowledge workers give their ideas and insights a place to live as Folia’s co-founder and chief executive officer. The software he coded over 10 years ago led to the creation of iAnnotate, our award-winning, on-device, single-document PDF annotation software, especially created with security in mind. It also planted seeds for our newest incoming product, Folia, a secure project workspace that allows you to gather digital resources, intuitively annotate files to distill your ideas, and share insights that drive progress – regardless of file format.

Find iAnnotate available for consumer and enterprise customers in the App Store for iOS & MacOS. Folia’s beta version is now available for consumer testing, emerging from the feedback of over one million iAnnotate users.
